BOWLING.

At the Northern Club’s green on Saturday three rinks from Shannon were engaged in friendly games. After the previous night’s rain the greens were not so keen as in the earlier part of the week. Northern won two games out of three. Results were as follow, TTorthern players being mentioned first :—Sharman, Rumble, It. Stallard, Larcombe (skip) 25 y. Radford, G. Hook, . Grey, Quarrie (skip) 17; Johnson, H. Stallard, Tenle, Fenwick (skip) 21 v. Collins, Hemmingsen, Bovis. Hook (skip) 25; Valentine, Newton, S. Parsons, Bryant (skip) 21 v. Alexander, Hudson, Cronquest, Morgan (skip) 19. A rink from Palmerston North club were visitors to Northern Club, also being beat by a margin of 15 points. Rinks wore : —Northern : Andrew, Rev. J. E. Parsons, Stuart, Bennett (skip) 29, Palmerston North: . Gooding, Wimsett, Sparrow, J. A. Nash (skip) 14. On Tuesday evening next Northern and Takaro will play the third round of the series of matches for the Takaro —-To Raki Cup, each club having one win to their credit. The match will bo played on the Takaro green. Northern rinks as follow:—Lee, W. Stallard, Sharman, Stuart (skip); Valentine, Kirk, McKee, Larcomb (skip): Mitchell, Dickel, Teale, Bryan (skip); Kensington, Newton, Thirtle, Robinson (skip); Roulston, Rev. J. E. Parsons, Mills, Moxom (skip).

OROUA LOSE DIXON CUP. The Oroua Bowling Club’s Dixon Cup rink unsuccessfully played a challenge rink from the Pahiatua Club on Saturday for the Dixon Cup and Tuoker Badges, the visitors annexing the cup by one paint. Right up to the end of the game the issue was in doubt and the match was one of the most interesting yet seen on the Oroua green. The rinks were:—Pahiatua: Britland, A. Bissett, P. Bissett, Paterson (skip) 20. Oroua: Simpson, Shrimpton, Roach, Aitken (skip). The Oroua Club nad held the cup against successive challenges from the Palmerston North, Takaro, Eketahuna and Dannevirke Clubs. The first challenge the new holders of the cup will be called upon to sustain will be from the Manawatu Club. TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. Section play in the Taranaki Bowling Centre’s tournament has concluded and the first round of tne post-section play has been decided. Wenhnm’s (Feilding) rink was beaten by Lobb (West End), 24—19, and has only one life remaining. SHANNON GALA DAY. Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., president of the Manawatu Bowling Centre, has arranged a gala day to be held at Shannon on Saturday next at two o’clock. The follpwing clubs have intimated their intention of attending:—Foxton and Levin (3 rinks), Palmerston North (2 rinks), Takaro, Northern, Terrace End and Manawatu (one rink each).
