HORSE DRIVERS MEET.
GRASS PLOT PROTECTION DISCUSSED. There was an attendance of about 20 at a meeting of horse owners, drivers and other interested persons held last evening to give consideration to the by-law regarding grass plot protection..
Mr W. J. Farland presided and expressed dissatisfaction at the small gathering, for, he said, there were hundreds of people in Palmerston North and district who had commented on the recent Court decision in regard to horses or other traffic encroaching on the areas. The meeting had been called to consider the question of raising a bond to enable a general appeal against the decision to fo forward to tire Supreme Court. 'ailing this, he said, an appeal could be made on a point of law, but the former course was deemed more satisfactory.
A general discussion ensued, members pointing out that all had a right to the King’s highway and that some provision should be made for horses. The bitumen surface of the roads was slippery and dangerous, while the bylaw meant that extreme difficulty would have to be faced in loading or turning.
It was subsequently, announced that the desired sum would be forthcoming for the bond and that the appeal would go forward.
