CITIZENS’ LUNCH CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING. Tlie annual meeting of the Palmerston North Citizens’ Lunch Club was held at the weekly luncheon to-day, the president (Mr P. S. Lareoinb) occupying the chair. ANNUAL REPORT. The fourteenth annual report, submited by Messrs Larcomb, W. H. Brown (assistant-secretary) and J> H. Stevens (life-secretary) stated that the Savings Bank reserve of £37 represented subscriptions paid in advance of tlie current year by. 24 life members and 52 five-year members, whose consideration thus saved the executive much work in collecting annual subscriptions from over two hundred members. During this year the benefactions as detailed in the obalance-sheet, were £43 os 3d,” continued the report. “This brings the amount so bestowed since 1926 to £320, all of which was derived from the Club’s ordinary subscriptions and the interest upon those paid in advance. It is noted with pleasure that in reply to the application of the executive made through our chief postmaster, the General Post Office now permits the Public Hospital, the Old People’s Home, the Y.M.C.A., all of Palmerston North, to receive single copies of any registered newspaper free of postage, if addressed to the matron or officer in charge of the institution. The weekly addresses have not only been a source of interest to our appreciative members, but they have been read and enjoyed by the public through the good offices of the local Press. It will be of interest to review the names of the sixteen visiting speakers who favoured us with addresses during the year now ending:—From Wellington: His Excellency The Governor-General, Mrs Ereida Shaw, Dr. Gibb, Messrs G. H. Scott, A. H. Cockayne, W. M. Paterson, C. S. Dempster and It. Darroch; from California, Mr M. Cohen; from Melbourne, Miss Jean Stevenson; from Wanganui, Dr. Elizabeth Gunn; from Marton, Miss E. M. Kinross; from Auckland, Mr H. Barry Coney; from South Seas, Rev. A. H. Cropp; from Hawke’s Bay, Mr J. G. Doyie; from Christchurch, Mr H. J. Marriner. In addition to these, thirty local speakers have addressed us. Wo most heartily appreciate the good offices of the forty-six speakers, the attention given by the “ladies in waiting,” our hosts, and the local Press.” The balance-sheet showed that the following amounts had been dispersed during the year:—Central relief, £10; children’s library, £9 15s; youths’ employment, £5; Willard Home, £5; guests, £3 13s 6d; Y.AV.C.A., £3; probationers, £2 10s j Salvation Army, £2 4s 9d; waitresses, £2 2s; total, £43 5s 3d. Cash in hand amounted to £1 8s 9d. Subscriptions paid totalled £45 10s, and there had been £25 4s 6d general expenses. When the year commenced there had been a credit balance of £SB 15s 6d.

He paid a tribute' to Mr Stevens’s fine services, lie having greatly 7 assisted the speaker during the year. The report and balance-sheet were adopted.

Mr O’Shea, on behalf of the members, in recognition of Mr Larcomb’s services to the club, presented him with a life member’s certificate.
