FEILDING.

ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY,

The council of the Feilding Acclimatisation Society met last nigTit, Mr F. H. Stockwell, the president, being in the chair. Also present were Messrs E. Ingram, AA 7 . J. Alpe, E. H. Lange, T. Burno, J. Hurdle, D. G. Fraser, C. J. Wickham and P. P. Stevens. Reporting on the fry which had been received from the Hawke’s Bay Society, the president said that although the fish were not so largo as had previously been received, they were in splendid condition, and Mr Stockwell was pleased to be able to state that the liberation had been 100 per cent, successful. Mortality among the fry had been almost nil and, thanks to the co-operation of members of the council, the fry had been liberated over a much wider area of the district streams and rivers than had usually been the case. Mr Wickham, the secretary, referred to the services which Mr H. Hope had rendered the society in regard to the liberation, and on his motion Mr Hope was accorded a vote of thanks.

Regarding rabbit poisoning operations being carried out by the Knviten Rabbit Board, it was decided to request the inspector of the board not to lay phosphorised pollard in localities where pheasants were known to be present. The council decided to convey the same request to the board.

TENNIS

On Saturday afternoon a team from St. Paul's Tennis Club journeyed to Martoa to play St. Andrew’s Club. The visitors won an interesting contest by 13 sets (112 games) to 11 sets (109 games). Tire following are the details, Feilding players mentioned first:

SCHOOL TENNIS.

The Lytton Street School tennis team met a beam representing the Hunterville, Rata and Silverhope team at Feilding on Saturday afternoon in a return match. Lytton Street proved too strong for the combined team, the match resulting in the visitors being defeated, by 20 sets to four sets. R. Legge thanked the visitors for visiting the school, the visiting team’s captain replying. Lunch and afternoon tea was provided by the senior girls of the school.

NOTES,

The financial committee of the Feihling Borough Council met yesterday afternoon and decided to proceed with | the arrangements for the changing of the domicile of the loans with the A.ALP. Society. These are at present domiciled in Sydney and the Alayor (Air C. E. Taylor) announced that he had been negotiating to have them changed to AVellington. This move was considered to be in the best interests of the borough. The committee also completed arrangements in connection with a £3500 repayment loan, temporary accommodation being arranged for with the Bank of New Zealand pending the time when the borough will offer debentures to cover the amount.

The Feilding High School’s first eleven journeyed to Hawera yesterday afternoon to play the annual fixture with the Hawera Technical High School. The team will return on AVednesday, the match being played to-day. Air C. B. AlcClure has charge of the bovs.

Feilding Alerrymakers’ Club held a successful dance on Saturday evening. The music was supplied by an orchestra of four, the numbers being greatly enjoyed, especially the singing of the vocalist of the band. Several novelty dances were conducted and these made up for much of the success of the gathering.
