(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON, Dec. 12. The juniors of the Shannon Tennis Club played Mangaoro juniors at Mangaore on Saturday morning, winning by 10 sets to 3 and 71 games to 39. The young players had an enjoyable outing and are looking forward to entertaining the Mangaore players at Shannon. On the local courts on Saturday afternoon defeated Otaki in the Manawatu Association’s tennis competition by 11 sets to 5 and 116 games to 82. A strong wind made playing conditions unpleasant. Tho following are the scores. Shannon mentioned first: —Men’s singles: Graham 9 v. Ryder 1, Pope 9 v. Benge 4, Robinson 5 v. Sweeney 9, King 9 v. Searle 2. • Ladies’ singles: Mrs I.ong 7 v. Miss llawea 3, Miss Brown 5 v. Miss Box 7, Mrs Hook 1 v. Miss St. George 7, Miss E. Quarrie 7 v. Mrs Benge 2. • Men’s doubles: Graham and Tope 9 v. Ryder and Benge 6, Robinson and King 9 v. Sweeney and Searle 7. Ladies’ doubles: Mrs Long and Miss Brown 7 v. Miss llawea and Miss Box 5, Mrs Hook ar.d Miss Quarrie 7 v. Miss St. George and Mrs Benge 1. Mixed doubles: Graham and Miss Brown 7 v. Bonge and Miss llawea 9, Pope and Mrs Long 9 v. Ryder and Miss St. George 4, Robinson and Mrs Hook 9 v. Sweeney and Miss Box 9. King ar.d Miss Quarrio 9 v. Searle and Mrs Benge 2. The community sing to raise funds for the construction of local swimming baths was held last Thursday evening, when the Maoriland Theatre was packed. Mr Owen Pritchard and Mr Frank Crowther had charge of the proceedings, and the large audience thoroughly entered into the spirit of tho evening. This was the first effort to establish the fund and resulted in £9 6s Id being realised. Mrs W. N. Brown returned home on Friday much improved in health. The local cricket eleven defeated Pnraparaumu in the Horowhenua cricket championship, played at Parapnraumu on Saturday.
