FACILITIES FOR CAES

admission to showgrounds

GATE STEWARD’S COMPLAINT,

“Motor-cars for which admission was paid to the recent Royal Show numbered 486, an increase over the two previous years,” stated the chanm. the gate stewards (Air M. G. in a report to the Mmiawatu and \V est Coast A. and P. Association s general committee to-day. , Mr Black added: — The number of admissions is 140 in excess of last year and with the exception of the years, 1929 and 1930, the highest for eight years. Every effort was made to provide satisfactory car parking accommodation, under properly regulated control, but a great deaf of opposition was encountered from motorists and little consideration was extended by the stewards themselves, who were amongst the worst culprits in breaches of the regulations. It is only fair to expect the officials of the association to give a proper example to the general public in this regard and to assist the gate and ground steward in the carrying out of his duties. , , , “Had it not been for the haphazard parking of officials’ cars around the stock pavilion and in almost every place instead of the proper parking place, my work would not have been made so difficult and unpleasant on the first day of the Show. The safety and convenience of the public who patronise the Show must be our first consideration, and if haphazard parking occurs it interferes not only with the stock displays but jeopardises the public safety and reduces the car admission revenue. With the large volume of motor traffic today' and the gradually reducing area available in the grounds for parking purposes it is essential that car parking be under the strictest possible control and I now appeal to every member of this committee to assist the gate stew'ard by their observances of the regulations and their example to the general public.”
