ATTENDANCE AT SHOWS.
EIGHT YEARS’ FIGURES. During the past eight years the total number of adults and children who have paid cash admittance to the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association’s Spring Show is 132,441, according to a statement submitted by the chairman of the gate stewards (Mr \V. G. Black) to the association’s general committee, to-day, when it was indicated that cash .admissions during that period had been as f0110w: —1925, 9948 adults and 1946 children (total 11,894); 1926, 10,114 and 3407 (13,521); 1927, 11,194 and 3,536 (14,730) ; *1923, 12,950 and 3,734 (16,684); 1929, 16,988 and 5022 (22,010) ; 1930, 13,679 and 3628 (17,307) ; 1931, 11,280 and 3154 (14,434) ; 1932, 17,127 and 4741 (21,868). Tho report added: “It will be noted that the total cash turnstile attendance this year was slightly more than 50 per cent in excess of 1931 and approximately double the attendance in 1925. Although 1929 was the peak year when the gate receipts were £363 more than this year, the attendance in that year was only 142 individuals in excess of this year, but actually, represents a reduction of 139 adults in 1929 and an increase of 281 children. It may, therefore, be justly claimed that, in spite of tho present difficult times through which we are passing, the popularity of this association’s Spring Shorn is on a steady upward grade, and in my opinion this committee should concentrate every energy on consolidating and extending that popularity in order to reap the benefit in future years when it may be expected that better conditions will prevail. If any action is taken at any time likely to prejudice the growing popular support, on the score of finance or other suggested expediency, it would be mistaken policy and possibly re-act disastrously in later years.”
