GENERAL FORECAST
A moderate anti-cyclone is moving on to northern New Zealand, but a fresh depression has passed Tasmania and will be affecting southern districts today. Moderate to strong southerly winds north of Greymouth and Kaikoura; elsewhere north to north-west and northerlies gradually becoming general. Seas rough between Kaikoura and East Cape; elsewhere moderate in New Zealand waters. Variable winds tending northerly and freshening in the eastern Tasman Sea; seas moderate. AVeather fair to fine generally at first, with cool temperatures, but unsettled conditions developing to-day in ■western and far southern districts of the South Island. Temperatures also rising. DISTRICT REPORT. The Government meteorologist telegraphed to-day : Tho indications are for moderate but freshening northerly winds. Fair weather, with mild temperatures, may be expected, but with increasing haze and cloudiness. The barometer is falling slowly. MANAWATU RIA 7 ER GAUGE. Noon.—3ft. 3ins.
