RIOTING IN BENGAL.
AUTHORITIES DEFIED
POISONED ARROWS USED-
Received December 16, 10.15 a.m. CALCUTTA Dec. 15. Several hundred Santhalis, aboriginals of Western Bengal, were concerned In serious' rioting at Malda under a tribal leader. They occupied a mosque, defied the authorities, and announced that they would set up a now GovernBritish District Magistrate and the police superintendent, when attempting to reason with them, were attacked with poisoned arrows and swords. One constable was fatally injured. The police opened fire, killing three and injuring many. The situation is now under control.
