THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. A fairly intense anti-cvclone is now centred east of New Zealand, while a cyclonic depression is located off the coast of New South Wales. The tropical depression south of Fiji appears to have lost intensity. Moderate but freshening northerly winds, veering to south-east during to-day. in the southern half of the South Island. Seas smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters, but rising especially about Cook and Foveatix Straits. Strong north-east to northly winds, backing to southerlies in the southern portion of the Eastern Tasman Sea; seas becoming rough. Weather still fair to fine and warm at first, but unsettled conditions developing during to-day in northern and western districts, with some rain following and becoming more widespread after about 24 to 36 hours.
DISTRICT REPORT. BAROMETER FALLING. The Government meteorologist telegraphed to-day : —The indications are for moderate to strong northerly winds. There is a prospect of fair weather with warm temperatures. The barometer has a falling tendency.
