NO. 10 SCHEME.
The secretary of the Manawatu Employment Development Committee (Mr K. G. Chamberlain) has been advised that the Unemployment Board, while not approving of any actual extension of the date on which applications under the No. 10 Scheme close, has announced an important concession which will extend the full benefits of the subsidy considerably. The regulations previously provided that the subsidy of 6s 8d in the £1 would bo available only on labour actually engaged before the 31st December, but’ the amendment in the conditions now makes the subsidy payable on all eligible labour engaged after December 31, provided, and this condition must be carefully noted, that the work is approved by the Labour Department before that date. This means that works approved before the eiid of this month and carrying on into next year will receive the full benefit of the subsidy even though the labour for these works may not be actually engaged before the closing date of the scheme.
