ENGLISHMEN IN TASMANIA. TWO CENTURIES. LAUNCESTON, Dec. 16. The English cricketers commenced their first match in Tasmania at Launceston to-day in fine weather and on a true wicket. Wyatt won the toss and opened with Sutcliffe. The Yorkshiieman batted brightly, scoring 101 in 66 minutes. He hit two sixes and six fours. Pataudi played attractive cricket, scoring a century in 139 minutes. He hit eight fours. The total reached 300 in 223 minutes. Less than half an hour later 50 lrad been added, ancT the day’s total was 395 for three wickets. Following are the scores: ENGLAND.—First Innings. In the Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales, South Australia in the first innings made 213 (Whittington 73, Grimmett 36, Richardson 28, Nitschke 8). O’Reilly took four wickets for 47; Stewart, three for 35; Howell, three for 61. New South Wales in the first innings has no wickets down for 76.
NO PLAY AT MELBOURNE. MELBOURNE, Dec. 16. In the Sheffield Shield match between Victoria and Queensland there was no play to-day owing to rain.
