STRENGTHENING AUTHORISED

Following a report submitted by the engineer upon the cost of strengthening the upper floor, and ceiling of the old portion of the Municipal Chambers, with a view to tying in the ends of the floor joists to the brick walls, the City Council decided last evening to have the work "put in hand. The Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) said it was estimated that expenditure totalling £75 would be required, und he suggested that they would be well advised to carry out the work, which was designed to effect a degree of salety and add to the strength of the building. . , , . , The engineer was instructed to carry out the work. .
