(From Our Own Correspondent.) POHAXGIXA, Dec. 19. There was a good gathering of parents and friends at the breaking-up .ceremony which took place at the school on Friday afternoon and proved a most enjoyable event. The children gave a nice programme of items a* fol.ow: ‘"The National Anthem,” all the scholars; choruses, .-enior pupils; recitation, “The Torch of Life.” Ivan Lcpper: nursery rhymes, Priilicr pupils; recitation, “The Pirate.” Tern Herrington; recitation, ‘‘The Lake J*lc of Innusfiec,” Liniscy Klink. Marches and drills were given h.v the children on the lawn and Donald Sinclair, Hex Watson. Kevin Palmer and Dick Mour darned Highland dances to music *uppiicd by Mr Stuart with the bagpies. At the conciuAcn of tho programme. Mr Palmer ((barman of the School Committee) *poko. a ftw words prior Io presenting the priz's. He also congratulated the children on their sueveso as members of the calf club. reminding them that although all could not he prize-winners the experience gained in this, their first year, would be useful to them in the future. Beryl IJarhind and, Edward Hockley were congratulated. f or winning second and third places res; actively in group No. 4 for record-keeping. Thcnc was only one candidate for Jie proficiency, examination and Iho pupil. Ivan L< pper, was presented with the certificate, and a special hook prize from the committee. A book was also presented to each of the pupils. Attondan?e cards were awarded to Tom Herrington and Ruth Harlnnd for full attendance, and to Vivian Ki nk. X< vil’.e Moar and Pervl Harland. Mr Palmer coneluded with thanks to Mr and Mrs Stuart for tho kindly interest they had taken in the children, and with best wishes to all for the Christmas and Now Year. .Vternnon tea wan done full justice to, and the parents and friends enjoyed examining the display of the ycai’s handcraft * and sowing. Some beautiful articles in raffia wmk end soft toys done by the pupils were duly admired. The annual picnic m to be held when the school eomrneiuTS again after the holidays and the spot where it is to bo held will be decided later.

on his premises at Waiata. Supper was then served and the floor was cleared for dancing The door takings were in aid of ills piano fund, and realised • more than was expected, so that the committee was pleased to announce later that tne debt on the piano is now cleared.
