(From Our Own Correspondent.) WAIATA, Dec. 19. There was a full attendance of parent* and friends at a very successful concert presented by pupils of the Waiata School for their bieaking-up ceremony on Friday night. It hud only been decided a fortnight ago to hold a concert, so that the audience were most agreeably surprised at the •splendid programme presented. Miss llena-h-’n, the teacher, deserves great credit lor the time and patience she hr* devoted to the children and it ie gratifying to know that her efforts were crowned with sucre 6. The programme was interp.-ersed. with u few items by adults, and Ihe children’s items included dances, drills, songs, recitations, and three very well acted play*, which, were received by a most appreciative audience. Mi** M. Brown acted as nccompaniste for the children’s dances and songs. The programme opened with a dance of greeting and a ?»laori action song. Miss M. Brown pleaded the company with her solo ‘‘The Second Minuet.” A recitation. “The Great Meat Pie,” was given by Allan Bunn, followed by protty character song. “The Sleeping Princess,” by the following; The Princess (Greta Bridgeman), The Prince (Harold Bunn). Tho Witch (Allan Jensen). end a chorus of junior girl*. The plnv, “Wanted, a Boy” wa«s very well acted by Boris Mulholland, Claud Fitzwatcr. and Allan Bunn. “Four Niggers Go Shopping” wr* a humorous sketch by the boys, followed by an action song “The Little Dreamer” by the girls. Mi*s W. Dawson, gave a humorous recitation “The Obstructive Hal.” 17 he programme continued wirli a recitation “The Pirate*.” by Watson Fitzwatcr. Harold Bunn. Kevin Fitzwatcr and Allan Jensen; chorus. “Pottering Along”; recitation, “Going Home For Xmas,” Jean Redshaw; dance. “The Flirtation,” all the chi'dren; recitation, “The Fireman.” (’laud h!tzwater; character *ong. “Reuben and Rachel.” Jean Redshaw. Greta Bridgeman and Owen and Allan Bunn; recitation, “Mr Nobody,” Kevin Fitzwatcr. the “(Tap Dance”, completing the first part of the programme. The second half opened with the play “The Society For Doing Good”, which caused no little amu-oment. The caste was as follow*: Mrs Raymond, a widow (Miss V. Red-haw); Mr* Riddle, also a widow (Miss G. B’akelock): Miss Marigold. an old maid (Mi*s M. Brown); arid Miss Jemima Jenkins, a poetical old maid (Mis* W. Dawson). Following this were two recitations. “Grandpapa’s Spectacle*.’ by Greta Bidgeman. and “The New Duckling.” by Boris Mulholland. The play “Laying The Ghost,” which followed, was splendidly acted, the east being: The Professor (Boris Mulholland); The Butler (Claud Fitzwatcr); The Ghoet (Kevin Fitzwatcr): The Housekeeper (Jean Red-haw): and Tho Policeman (Jim Cousins); after this amu*ing item, recitations were given by Harold and Owen Bunn. and a *ong “Christmas Bells.” by the scholars. “The Little French Waitress” was a humorou* recitation given by Mis* J.
