THE SOUTHERN CROSS.

DOMINION ITINERARY. PALMERSTON NORTH TO BE VISITED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 20. According to Mr Wilfrid Kingsford Smith, who arrived from Sydney today to make arrangements for the visit of his brother (Sir Charles Kingsford Smith) in the Southern Cross, one of the mystery passengers for the Tasman flight is Mr S. E. Neilson, secretary of the New Zealand Aero Clubs and the Western Federated Aero Club. Mr Neilson will leave Auckland for Australia by the Monowai on December 29. Mr Kingsford Smith states that the Southern Cross will definitely visit New Plymouth, Auckland, Hamilton, Napier, Hastings, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Levin, Masterton, Blenheim, Christchurch, Ashburton, Timaru, Oamaru, Dunedin and Invercargill. A number of other places will be visited if landing places suitable for a plane the size of the Southern Cross are available, but no definite decision will be made until an inspection has been made. Towns in this category include Whangarei, Dannevirke, Gisborne, Hawera, Hokitika, Alexandria and Gore. Sir Charles expects to be here till the end of February, and it has been practically decided that he will then fly back to Australia. The Ninety Mile Beach has been provisionally chosen as the take-off place. It is learned that Mr Wilfrid Kingsford Smith, who arrived in New Zealand yesterday to make arrangements at this end for the flight Of the Southern Cross, will be visiting Paimerston North early in the new year. Arrangements are stated to be in hand by the Manawatu Aero Club for the reception of the plane and the matter of any extension of the Milson Aerodrome facilities will be discussed with Mr Wilfrid Smith.

Weather conditions permitting, Sir Charles Kingsford Smith hopes to take off from Gerringong Beach, about 100 miles south of Sydney, at about two o’clock on the morning of Thursday, January 12, and reach New Plymouth about three o’clock Australian time (five o’clock New Zealand time) the same day.
