THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. An anti-cyclone has moved on to New Zealand with its centre over the southern portion. Pressure is low over the greater part of Australia, and there are indications of a cyclone having developed over the western portion of the Tasman Sea. Moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly winds, backing shortly to easterly and northeasterly and becoming strong in places. Seas rather rough north of Castlepoint and about Cook Strait; elsewhere smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters. Moderate but increasing east to north-east winds in the eastern Tasman Sea; seas moderate but rising. Weather ma-inly fair to cloudy, but with scattered showers in eastern districts, more especially between Kaikoura and East Cape. Ruin later developing in the northern districts. DISTRICT REPORT. RAIN EXPECTED. The Government meteorologist wired to-day : —The indications are for moderate easterly winds, freshening later. Expect dull weather, with much mist and fog in parts, and rain later.
