EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” DECEMBER 21, 1902. The Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce had decided to support the local branch of the Farmers’ Union in its agitation for the establishment by the Government of an experimental farm and dairy school in Palmerston North. The value of the dairying industry in the ltongotea district was shown by one settler drawing a cheque for £35 from a head of 21 cows during October and another averaging £1 9s per head of a GO cow herd for November. The first Cricket Umpires’ Association in the Colony had been successfully established in Palmerston North. . It was reported that land on the Waimate Plains was bringing up to £25 per acre. A large gathering of Sydney’s leading businessmen had been held to celebrate the entry of the steamer Moeraki in the Australia-New Zealand service.
