OXLEY FIT FOR BIG EIGHT.
Ted Oxley will enter the ring at the Opera House on Monday night next as fit as he evor has been, and is determined to put up the fight of his life against his redoubtable opponent. Archie Hughes. Ilis longer reach will be a decided advantage over the Aucklander, but Hughes’s clover fotowork has saved him a lot of punishment and his rugged mothod of boring in lias won the champion most of his contests; but Oxley, after having lost the decision twice through “mixing it,” will probably fall back on his clever boxing and speed to pilo up the points. This fight, which is. scheduled to go 15 rounds, should be full of interost, as it is really a contest between a clever boxer (Oxley) and a clever in-fighter (Hughes). This is all the better from the spectator’s point of view, and when a pair like this meet one can bo sure of seeing the best exhibition that can bo made, because if both were in-fighters, there would bo too much clinching and if both were boxers too niuch sparring for un opening. As it is, it could not be improved upon, and a crowded bouse on Boxing Night should be a certainty. Tho preliminaries are being selected from all over tho Wellington province, making tho night’s programme one that will stand up to the best ever yet submitted. The box plans open to-morrow at the Central Booking Office in Broadway, where seats may be booked in tho circle, stalls or ringside.
