HIWINUI SCHOOL.
On Friday tho Hiwinui School ground presented an animated scene when the school’s annual picnic- was held in conjunction with tho prize-giving ceremony. The ovont was ravourod with beautifully fino weather and the gathering included a largo number of parents, friends and expupils. Mr J. Ilenaghan (chairman of the committee), after extending a welcome to the gathering presented tho award books and proficioncy certificates. The afternoon was filled with a sports programme and all tho events wore very keenly contested, the results being as follow :—Tiny tots’ race, I. Bassett 1, N. Wilton 2. Primers. R. Wallace 1. S. Maulo 2. Standard 1 and 2, M. Currio 1. L. Lasson 2. Standards 3 and 4. K. Bassett 1, B. Elwin 2. Standards 5 and 6, F. Ashwood 1 J. Wiggins 2. Girls’ threelegged race, F. Ashwood and J. Wiggins 1, B. Elwin and D. Taplin 2. Boys’ threelegged race, B. Elwin and 11. Davis 1. Young ladies’ race, Miss D. Wiggins 1, Miss L. Grcenhow 2. Young men’s race. F. McKinley 1. W. Elwin 2. Married Indies’ race,' Mrs Wilton 1, Mrs Currio 2. Married men’s race. F. Davis 1, B. Williamson 2. Committeemen's wives, Mrs Wiggins 1, Mrs Davis 2. Committeomen’s race, M. Davis 1, E. Ashwood 2. All agreed that tho day had been a veryenjoyable one. In tho evening a danco was held in tho school. There wasa fair attendance of dancers and an enjoyable evening was spent in old-time and modern dancing.
