PAHIATUA

PAHIATUA, Dec. 23. Mr J. Walker, of the local staff of the Bank of New Zealand will spend Christmas at his homo at Huntervillc. Mr C. E. B. Irving will spend Christmas with friends at Waipukurau. Mr Nelson Richardson is spending a holiday at Haunui. Mr and Mrs G. Godfrey Taylor intend spending the Christmas holidays at Napier. Mr and Mrs G. Harold Smith aro motoring to Rotorua. Mr and Mrs S. T. Tinncy and family left yesterday on a motor camping trip to Rotorua and Whdkatane. Mrs A. Knox, of Kaitawa, has been visiting Wellington. Mr and Mrs G. Russell aro visiting Auckland. Mrs G. Koast and Miss Keast aro motoring to Now Plymouth for the Christmas holidays. Mrs L. Vile (Pahiatua) will spend the holidays with relatives at Bulls and Wanganui. Mr and Mrs W. L. Tattle and Mr and Mrs J. Marsh are leaving by car for Wellington, whore they intend spending the Christmas holidays. Mr and Mrs L. I). Lovelock intend spending a fortnight motoring in the Gisborne and Morcre districts. Mrs C. C. Smytlie loft to-day to spent the holidays in Wanganui. Mr and Mrs A. J. Goer and family aro leaving on Christmas Day to motor to Auckland where they intend spending a month’s holiday. There was a good congregation at the special service held in St. Paul's Presbyterian Church for the induction of Rov. K. L. Warren, M.A., and his induction to the Pahiatua chargo. Members of the Wairarapa Presbytery had chargo of the service, tho Moderator being Rov. G. W. Blair, of Featherston. Other members of tho Presbytery in attendance were: Rov. Alexander Hardio (Martinborough), clork of the Wairarapa Presbytery; Rev. F. FI. Taylor, Greytown; Rev. R. Dickie, Lansdowno; Rov. J. Davie, Knox Church, Mastcrton. Rev. G. W. Blair, tho Moderator, proceeded with the induction of Mr Warren to the Pahiatua charge, _ tho congregation being unanimous in their decision to accopt Mr Warren and all promising their cooperation with him in his work. The ordination of Mr Warren followed, this being a very impressive ceremony. Rev. J. Davio, of Knox Church, Mastcrton, addressed the new minister. The address to tho congregation was given by Rov. Alexander Hardie (Martinborough). A suggestion that bequest money should be used for capital work—tho proposal put forward being tiro tar-sealing of tho entrances to Masterton and Pahiatua Hospitals in order to allay the dust nuisance—was discussod by the Wairarapa Hospital Board at its meeting this week. It was finally decided to refer tho matter to the contral committee of the board. A very enjoyable party was hold at Mrs G. Godfrey Taylor’s residence on Monday. About a dozen members of tho Young Helpers’ League wore present and thoroughly enjoyed tho games and musical items, while Mrs Taylor (president of tho league) provided a dainty afternoon tea. Tho amount in tho collection boxes this year was £2. Kenneth Paterson won the prizo for the most money in the boys’ boxes and Jean Macrao for the girls.
