BUTTER PRICES SLIGHTLY IMPROVE. CHEESE STEADY. There was a very slight improvement in the London buttor markot* last week, but prices of New Zealand salted did not advance above 82s for first grade at 84s for finest, a riso of Is 'on the week. Christinas buying practically finished on Wednesday, and the market closed rather weaker, according to tho Dairy Board’s report. Tho retail price of New Zealand buttor in London is lid a lb., and that of Danish Is 2d a lb. The cheese market closed steady. Now Zealand white at 51s-52s and coloured at 565-575, tho Idler showing a riso of 2s a owt. on tho week. The London office of the Dairy Board quotes Tuesday’s closing prices as follow, thoso for tho previous week being shown in parentheses: BUTTER. Now Zealand salted, 82s to 84s (81s to 83s; Dec. 23, 1931, 96s to 98s); unsalted, 88s to 92s (90s to 945; Dec. 23s 1931, 112 s to 118 s), 82s to 84s equals approximately 8 3-8 d f.o.b. Deliveries, Now Zealand, 2850 tons; in store, 7133 tons. Australian, salted, 82s to 84s; ex 85s (81s to 83s); unsalted, 86s to 88s (84s to 88s). Deliveries, Australian, 2375 tons; in store, 1762 tons. Argentine, unsalted, 84s to 86s (82s to 86s). Danish, 96s f.0.b.; 122 s spot (102 s; 1245). Dutch unsalted, 122 s to 124 s (122 s to 1245). The board has also received the following advice from its agents in Canada: Butter: New York, 24 cents; Montreal, 21i cents, a lb. CHEESE. New Zealand, white, 51s to 52s (51s to 535; Dee. 23, 1931, 55s to 565) ; coloured, 56s to 57s (54s to 555); Dec. 23, 1931, 54s to 555), 51s to 57s equals approximately sid, f.o.b. Deliveries, New Zealand, 27,664 . crates; in store, 34,365 crates. Australian, white, 50s to 51s; coloured, 54s to 575. Canadian, white and coloured, 60s to 68s (60s to 68s). Deliveries, Canadian, 4400 boxes; in store, 155,789 boxes. English finest farmor’s, 98s to 105 s (98s to 105 s). OTHER REPORTS. Mr Thomas Gray (Wellington) has received the following report, dated December 23, from London: Markets have a holiday character, but with a firm undertone. Cheese: Deliveries, New Zealand and Australian, 29,041 crates; Canadian, 40,589 boxes. Stock, New Zealand and Australian, 40,528 orates; Canadian, 157.588 boxes. Price, 50s white, 55s coloured. Butter: 33s first grade, 84s finest grade. The New Zealand Producers’ Co-operative Marketing Association’s weekly cabled market report from London, dated December 23, is as follows:—Butter: Market slow; New Zealand finest, 84s; first grade, 82s to. 83s; Danish, 1225. Cheese: Market slow; New Zealand, white-, 51s; coloured, 575.
