ENORMOUS DEBT BURDEN.
COST OF THE WAR TO AUSTRALIA CANBERRA, Dec. 27. The Federal Cabinet will meet next week to consider Australia’s war debt payments. The expenditure arising out of the war at present approximates £400,000 per week, nearly one-third of the Commonwealth revenue.
Australia’s war expenditure in 193132 was £21,405,557, comprising £8,852,913 on pensions and repatriation and £12,552,644 for interest and sinking fund. This brings the Commonwealth’s war bill to 770 millions, of which 467 millions liavo been spent since the Armistice.
