FAMOUS EXPLORER’S DIARY.
LINK WITH AIRSHIP TRAGEDY
BERLIN, Dec. 27. The Vossiche Zeitung’s Moscow correspondent says the Soviet’s meteorological officials at Cap Chelyuskin on the Tairmur Peninsula, in Siberia, have found Captain Amundsen’s diary of his search for the airship Italia in 1928. It is well preserved and was found in a hut in a snowdrift 1000 miles from the North-east Land whither Captain Amundsen was making when the last news was received.
Captain Amundsen set out in an aeroplane with a French pilot in the quest for tho lost crow of the airship Italia, commanded by General Nobile. Lator, parts of a. machine; presumed to bo thoso of Captain Amundsen’s ’plane, were found, but all other traces of tho noted explorer were lost.
