MISSING AEROPLANE PARTY
REPORTED TO BE SAFE,
PERTH, Dec. 28. Five days overdue, Mr H. Baker’s aeroplane, carrying two passengers, who are trying to locate a gold reef, is now reported to bo safe at Cook. The party made a forced landing, and the machine capsized in rough country.
As temporary repairs did not enable the machine to rise, one of the passengers, Mr V. Whelan, was forced to remain behind with a small amount of provisions. He will be rescued today by one of three search aeroplanes already cn route to Central Australia.
FOOD AND PROVISIONS DROPPFD
Received December 28. 10.55 a.m. PERTH, Dec. 29. A Hercules aeroplane lias returned to Forrest after locating Mr Whelan about 215 miles to the north. Provisions and water were dropped. No blacks were sighted. It is now proposed to go to Mr Whelan’s rescue on horseback; the journey will probably take four weeks. Mr Stuckey had a wound in the head, received while trying to disentangle himself from the overturned •'plane.
