EXECUTION IN IRELAND.
CROWD DEMONSTRATES AGAINST HANGMAN.
Received December 31, 1.20 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 29.
Patrick McDermott, tlio young Irish farmer, who murdered his brother oil September 9, was executed to-day. Pierrepont, the English executioner, was specially' called in to carry out the sentence, with tlio result that there were noisv Republican demonstrations outside Mount joy prison while the hanging was proceeding. Demonstrators carried banners inscribed ; “An English hangman destroys an Irishman. Is this justice? Is this freedom?” Police dispersed the crowd.
It was cabled yesterday that tho Government was experiencing difficulty in obtaining a hangman as it did not desire to call iii Pierrepont because ho executed rebels in Ireland' in 1921-22.
