PAYMENT OF ANNUITIES
MONEY IN SUSPENSE ACCOUNT,
Received December 30, 10.20 a.m. DUBLIN, Dec. 29. The Irish Press declares that a further £2,000,000, representing the December instalment of the land annuities is being placed in the suspense account. Farmers are paying satisfactorily, despite tho agitation.
UNIONS AND WAGE REDUCTIONS
LONDON, Dec. 29. Tho Irish Trades Union Congress and Labour members of the Dail Eireann will meet jointly on Friday to review the position arising from the Government’s decision to reduce Civil Service salaries on January 1 in accordance with the cost of living. Tho Labour leader, Mr Norton, is himself the principal official of the Post Office workers’ organisation. containing most of the lower grade workers affected.
Senator Vincent appeals for the formation of a new party consolidating the elements opposed to the Government. He describes the Cosgravo Party as no longer a living entity, ami suggests its fusion with the Farmers’ Partyl
Mr IV. T. Cosgravo, in reply, states that unity is essential against the Government which is driving the country to chaos. He admits that there is little difference between his own and the Farmers’ Party.
Tho state of the political parties in Ireland after flip general election in February last was as follows: Fianna Fail (do Valera), 72; Cosgrave Party, 56; Independents, 17; Labour, 7.
