(From Our Own Correspondent.) ' BULLS, Oct. 3.

As a reminder that summer pastimes are near at band, the Bulls Tennis Club’s courts will bo officially opened on Saturday. The Bulls Bowling Club and Croquet Club will open their greons on October 11.

On Wednesday, Bulls bowlers have opening day engagements at Marton and at Takaro. Other invitations on the local board arc to St. John’s (Wanganui), Oroua (Fcilding), Northern (Palmerston North), Fcilding, Huntcrvillo and Manawatu. Mr Pausina, a popular member of tho Bulls Rugby seniors, who is attached to the staff of the Greatford railway station, has received intimation of his promotion to a position at tho Thorndon station. Mr and Mrs H. Aldcrwick, of Wostmcre, who resided in Bulls for many years, arc holidaying hero at present. Several representatives of miniature riflo clubs in this district took part in tiio championship shooting at Wellington. T. Prichard (Bulls) gained second place in a big field after a shoot off, registering 13 consccutivo “bulls” before lie gained that, honour. The Ohakea Hail was crowded on Monday night when the Ohakea Ladies’ Hockey Club bold their wind-up dance and card party. Tho gathering was not only an enjoyablo one, but a financial success, the sum of £6 9s being taken at the doors. A professional orchestra supplied bright music, and extras were played by Miss R. Frccklington and Messrs Rowcti and M. Winiata. Monte Carlos wore won by Miss I. Matthews and Mr E. Murray, and by the same lady with Mr E. Lmnsclen. A sfatuc dance was won by Miss R. Tohu ami Mr McGregor. Tho most successful euchre players were Mrs G. Ellery and Mr D. Higgie. At tho conclusion, Mr H. Ellery thanked patrons for coining along in such good numbers, and called on Miss Muriel Ellery (club captain) to present a token of esteem to the ccach, Miss L. Bailey. Tho M.C’s. were Messrs G. Wiggins and D. Richardson. Small quantities of whitebait are coming into town from tho lower reaches of the Rangitikei, but the “run” has not commenced properly yot and amateur fishermen have mot with little, success. The Presbyterian Church Bulb Show, held in Bulls on Monday, was a great success, and tho not profit is reported to bo over £SO. On Tuesday afternoon members of the Women’s lustituto visited Rougotca, and contributed to an Institute entertainment there. . Local successes at the recent Trinity College music examinations are as follow: Higher local, Mavis Francis; transitional, Grayson Bond; elementary, Shirley Bond; initial division, Winnie King Hon (honours) .
