PAHIATUA.
PAHIATUA, Oct. 3.
The third birthday of the * ICohinui Women’s Institute, was held on Friday. Tho hall was filled. Visitors were present from all parts of the district, and the sister institutes of Mangatainoka, Ilaniua, Ivonini, Woodvillc and .Makuri wore well represented. Early in tho proceedings tho Hamua visitors delighted those present by giving a playette “Rory Aforesaid,” tho various parts being taken by Misses M. Bailey, D. Leith, D. Davies, E. Oavanagh, L. TJdy, I. Davies and I. Cavanagh. During the supper interval Mrs J. Moynalian, the president, thanked all for attending m such large numbers, and so making the function a success. She then cut and distributed the handsome birthday cake, which had been made by Mrs E. Millar, and decorated by Mrs C. Walker, of Mangatainoka. Mrs' A. Ellmors, the secretary, in mentioning this fact, also stated that Mrs Walker was regarded as the fairy godmother of the local institute, and that she had always helped them out of their perplexities. ~ Dainty posies of anemones and ranunculi (the handiwork of Mrs Halliwcll) wore presented to Mrs Walker and Mrs Moynahan. Dancing then continued to music supplied by Messrs Hirst and Wade, while extras were contributed by Miss M. Hirst and Mr Smith (Palmerston North). A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss D. Davies and Mr R. Henry, and the Lucky Cay Gordons by Mrs Christenson and Mr D. Piper. Mr Keith Fulton acted as M.C. Mrs F. T. Ladd, of ICohinui, has been obliged to enter hospital to undergo an operation. Both tho A and B grade in tho Ladies Golf Club played an eclectic competition the last two Saturdays. The winner of tho A grade was Miss F. Badger and of tho B grade Miss B. Anderson.
