FRENCH QUOTAS.
REVISION FOR BARGAINING PURPOSES. Tlie French. Cabinet has decided to cha.nge the imports system as from October 1. Present quotas will be maintained thereafter to the extent of only 25 per cent., and tho remaining 75 per cent, will be subject to'bargaining with the countries concerned. For instance, England will be allowed to send a quarter of her old coal quota., but will be asked to make sacrifices for the remaining three-quar-ters. This, it is expected, will bring a lowering of the tariffs against French' wines, silks and vegetables. “We refuse to be at the mercy of countries with depreciated currencies,” said an official of the Ministry of Commerce. “If England wants to maintain her exports with us she must consider us as well.-”
