WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Litle change was seen yesterday in the Wellington stock and share market, which had a rather quieter tone. Government loans and local body and other debentures continued to attract strong buying interest. Quotations were fully firm, city 5j per cent, debentures advancing 10s to 15s. Supplies were hard to locate, and there was a marked scarcity of sellers. Banks, for the most part, retained their strength on a sustamed demand. Commercial of Australia sold at 116 s lOd, and the preference at £8 13s 6d. | Union of Australia had a deal at £lO Bs, buyers staying in at 6d less. New Zealands firmed a couple of points to 46s without response. New South Wales were 5s down at £34 ss, no sellers. Australasias moved up Is 6d to £l2 19s, but sellers held off. National of N.Z. were steady at 84s, sellers asking 2s better. Minor movements occurred in financial and pustorals. Wellington Trust and Loan advanced 2s to 80s without attracting holders. Wellington and Christchurch Gas were firm at about late rates. Standard Insurance were Is up at 61s. N.Z. Insurance were easier on a sale o.t 54s 7£d, and more were offering at 555. N.Z. Refrigerating, £1 paid, neared par, a sale being reported at 19s lOd. Other sections of the market were comparatively dull, with little quotable change in prices. N.Z. Breweries were sought at 375, and Staples sold at 27s lOd. Both issues of Sharlands were firmer at 225, and a sale of the preference was made at 23s 6d. This company closed its accounts on August 31, and the dividend announcement is due shortly. Mining shares were quiet on a slack demand. Mount Lyells sold firmly at 24s 3d, and more were wanted at that price. There was an inquiry for Blackwat.ers at 33s 6d. YESTERDAY’S QUOTATIONS.
