At the wool sales 10,344 bales were offered, including 0162 from New Zealand, and about 8700 were sold. There was strong Home and Continental competition for all descriptions and the tendency was towards firmness. Quotations are as follow: Merinos. —Greasy, New South Wales, 18d; Victorian, 2u}d ; Western Australian, 15d. Scoured. —Queensland, 25}d; South Australian, 21d. New Zealand sales were: —Scoured: Branded “Otematata,” top price, 25d, average, 24}d; greasy halfbred branded “H A,” 15}d. THE SYDNEY SALES. STRONG COMPETITION. ~SYDNEY, Oct. 3. At the wool sales to-day 11,326 bales were offered, of which 10,332 were sold at auction; also 960 privately. The Japanese and Continental sections operated strongly, and the market continued firm and unchanged at last week’s levels. Satisfactory clearances were made. Greasy Merino made 21d for six bales from Boomi. The average price of tire wool sold at Sydney last week was £l7 3s 6d a bale or 13d a lb. SOUTH AFRICAN CLIP. (Times Cable.) LONDON, Oct. 3. The Times states that the South African wool clip is estimated at 800,000 bales. The condition varies owing to the drought.
