GOVERNMENT DEFEAT.

VOTE IN VICTORIA. Received October 4, 11.5 a.m. MELBOURNE, Oct. 4. The Government was defeated in the Assembly by 26 votes to 20 on an amendment to the Transport Regulation Bill, which is now likely to be dropped. The Minister of Railways, Hon. R. G. Menzies, commenting on the' defeat, said: “The Country Party appears to live up to the one function it performs in this Parliament; that of wrecker.” This is the Ministry’s third defeat in recent weeks.
