RECIPROCAL TRADE.

ANGLO-FINNISH TREATY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Oct. 2. The text of the Anglo-Finnish Commercial Agreement, which was signed at Helsingfors last Friday, shows that Finland has conceded an extensive reduction in Customs duties to a long schedule of British products, notably textiles, woollens, jute, linen, tinplates, galvanised sheets, small automobiles, tyres, whisky, gin, gramophones and records.

Among other goods accorded' similar benefits are salted herrings, the duty on which for the first year has been reduced from 2 marks to t mark per kilo for a fixed quantity. After the first year the duty will be raised to 1 mark per kilo and the quantity of herrings taken will be increased.

The fixation of'the existing duty has been agreed to regarding various goods, including certain colonial products such as bananas and tea, and a freedom of duty is guaranteed in the case of coal and coke.

Regarding coal, Britain nine years ago provided 95 per cent, of the coal for the Finnish market, but the figures dropped as low as 29 per cent, in .1931. Finland now agrees to take not less than 75 per cent, of her coal from Britain, which would amount to an . increase of 175,000 tons on last year’s figures and 400.000 tons over that of 1931: Regarding coke, the British trade delegation is going to Finland shortly for a discussion on coke imports. A purchase agreement similar to that negotiated in the recent treaty with Denmark has also been included, affecting, inter alia, wheat, flour, creosote, jute and salt, and an arrangement has also been started to increase the amount bought of British iron, steel, motor cars and commercial vehicles. ARGENTINE AGREEMENT. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. Oct. 2. The Anglo-Argentine tariff agreement has now been confirmed bv Congress, and its promulgation will follow shortly.
