RETAILERS’ QUEEN.

ENJOYABLE CONCERT.

Organised by Mr J. Garde Grimshaw, a delightful concert was given by his pupils, last evening, on behalf of the Retailers’ Queen, Miss Edna Boon. The concert was held • before an appreciative ' audience at the P.D.C. cabaret, which proved admirable for the occasion with its blackdraped stage and soft lighting effects. The programme presented was a delight to listen to, the items being well chosen and presented with the characteristic artistry that marks Mr Grimshaw’s pupils. Each artist was encored, and especially pleasing were ’the baritone solos of Mr White lock and the violin solos of Mr Findlay. Mrs Barlow played all the accompaniments in a very sympathetic manner. ■ Miss Boon was present and delighted everyone with her tap dancing, for which she wore a dashing suit of red and silver.

The following was the programme: Mothers’ League choir, “Morning”; song “Here’s to Love and Laughter,” Mrs Plummer; song, “Sombre Woods,” Mr Whitelock; recitation, “The Lady of Castelnoire,” Miss Phyllis Trask; violin solo, “Polish Dance ‘Severn’” Mr M. Findlay; song, “Horses of the Dawn,” Mr D. Rowe; song, “Beside Still Waters,” Miss Pollard; character recital, “The Trojan Mother,” Miss Smith; humorous sketch, “Before the Milliner’s Mirror,” Miss J. Wiggins; song, ••Hawthorn,” Miss Helen Wallace; violin solos, “Before Her Portrait,” “Hubay,” Mr M. Findlay; character song, ‘‘The Moon and I,” Mrs Young; operatic solo, “Oh, My Heart is Weary,” Mrs MacLachlan; operatic solo, “Yes, Let Me Like a Soldier Fall,” Mr Whitelock.
