RUSSELL STREET SCHOOL.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE
The Russell Street School Committee met last evening. Those present were Messrs C. N. ltabone (chairman), J. M. Gordon, F. T. Vasey, E. G. Spraggon, T. Simpson, C. S. Trask, J. T. McDavitt (secretary) and F. C. Campbell (headmaster). An apology for absence was received from Mr AV. H. Brown. The report of the headmaster (Mr F. C. Campbell) said that the present roll was 231 which was a record for the school. The attendances this week had been 192, 197 and 203. The last occasion on which the 200 mark had been passed was July 28. Owing to the prevailing epidemic the department had agreed to the elimination of the average for the second term. The school still had about 30 absentees per day, hut present indications were for improved conditions. The headmaster said that he had been absent from September 14 to September 25 through illness. During the month the chairman, secretary and architect of the Wanganui Education Board had paid a visit to the school. The chairman and the secretary of the committee were in attendance on that occasion. Miss Valentine, a departmental officer, was also a visitor to the school during the month. The suggestion was made that the committee should make application for the use of the Terrace End School baths for the coming season. —The report was adopted. Messrs Vasey, Rabone and McDavitt were appointed delegates to attend a meeting of tire Combined School Committees’ Association at an early date. It was decided to follow the suggestion of the headmaster and apply for the use of the Terrace End School baths for the season. Messrs Gordon and Vasey were appointed a visiting committee for the next month.
