FROM STABLE AND COURSE.

(By “Binocular.”)

The consistent Foreign Quecn, who won at Fox ion on Saturday, lias had her shock off and been turned out for a spell. A Palmerstonian had the good fortune to back the winning combination at the Australian Jockey dub’s meeting when he had Chatham and Regal Son coupled at the rate of 240 to 1.

Mobile, who set a merry pace in the Gillies Handicap at Kurow, has not been in work for any great length of time, so better things should be in storo for the Tractor gelding. Ho ran second at lfunedin yesterday. Mount Val, a three-year-old half-brother to Mount Boa, by Vaikyrian, who ran at the 'Kurow meeting, is stated to be a nice mover but he may require time to furnish his frame.

Metal. Bird has been recommissioned by R. Ellis at Riccnrton. This mentor is stated to have Delieo, Robin Hood and Golden Dart in advanced order.

Kiltown continues to gallop as well as ever on the track and is stated to bo one of the best-conditioned horses in work at Ellerslic. On a recent morning ho reeled off six furlongs in attractive style, traversing the distance in a shade over 1.16 on a track that was slightly holding, and lie was full of running at the finish. This four-year-old will have his next outing at the Avondale meeting and will bo a very fit horse by the time that meeting takes placo.

Sporting Song, who galloped attractively over a couple of furlongs on the course proper at Ellerslic recently, is said to be one of the most forward juveniles in work thore. He is a very robust colt, who thrives on plenty of work, and it would not surpriso to see him winning a race early in the season. Liko others of the same breed, Sporting Song relishes soft going, and if these conditions prevail at the spring meetings he will bo in his element.

At Ellorslie last week, Zano Grey gave a faultless jumping display over the big fences on the flat, and the next time this horse starts in a minor steeplechase he will b 9 troublesome. He has . done exceptionally well since ho last appeared in public and is now thoroughly seasoned, in fact, he lia3 never looked better than at present. Zano Grey will contest cross-country events at the Auckland spring meeting, and if ho fails to run prominently no excuses can be made for him.

When on the road to the Kurow meeting a flying visit was paid by “Sentinel” to the Eldorslie stud to see the Lord War-den—-Red Jazz colt, who has been handled by Mr Ken Austin for Mr J. M. Samson. The colt is a shapely sort, showing a lot of quality and a nice top-piece carried by a good sot of legs. When cantering in a paddock he was found to bo a nico mover with low, easy action. Ho has been perfectly broken, and showed the bc6t of manners when ridden.

The Now Zealand Cup candidate Polydora put up a good performance in the Kurow Cup, as she won well at the end of a fast-run race. Chrysology set a solid pace, but Polydora had his measure over a furlong from homo. Shatter was anchored by weight, and has no show when attempting to give weight to Polydora. She is well forward, and will not be lacking in condition when saddled for the big race at Ricearton.

Palantua pleased her admirers by the manner in which she won at the Kurow meeting. She was slow away at the rise of the barrier, and was running unbalanced for over a furlong. She then settled down to work . and, overhauling , Mobile, beat him nicely at the finish. It was a good performance, and she must have been giving Mobile a start of seven or eight lengths over the last half mile. Palantua pulled up well, and is just about right for a serious task.

TWO-YEAR-OLDS.

NEWCOMERS AT FOXTON

Two-year-olds who made their first appearance at the Foxton meeting were General Quex, Golden Chance, Lord Hereford, Bachelor’s Song, and Brown Betty. General Quex is a bay colt by Lord Quex out of Shrill, the dam of Father’s Voice and High Pitch. Ho was bred by Mr J. Gleeson, who purchased Shrill in foal to Lord Quex at the Flaxmcrc Stud dispersal for 50gns. Mr Gleeson sold General Quex to Mrs W. D. Graham. Golden Chance and Brown Betty are both owned by the local breeder, Mr C. T. Kceblc. Golden Chance attracted more than ordinary interest on account of his being a chestnut brother to the brilliant Golden Wings (Lackham— Megalo). Brown Hotly is a brown filly sister to Sporting Chance (Lackham —Signal March). Lord Hereford is a chestnut colt by Lord Quex from Gold Tress, an unraeed mare by Feramorz from Sundust, the latter bred in England by Sunstar. Lord Hereford carried the colours of Mr J. McCartin. Bachelor’s Song is a brown colt by Hunting Song from Bachelor’s Picture, by Gainsborough, and is one of Mr Kcm.ball’s big string.
