Those serving on the first Grand Jury of the Supreme Court in Palmerston North were: —Messrs T. 11. Hodder (foreman), M. Greaney, H. Sent H. J. Manson, J. A. Manson, J. L. Barnicoat, H. J. AV. Hall, P. Hanlon, A. Drew, D. Pirani, E. A. Slack, F. AV. Connell, J. A. Gower, T. Lancaster, R. J. Munro, H. M. Copeland, AA r . Rowlands, O. H. Porl'itt, C. 0. Bcrgersen, A. Farmer, junr., H. Palmer, S. J. Mullin and L. H. Collinson.
Messrs E. 0. Hurley, IT. R. Cooper, H. S. Fitzherbert and J. Herbert Hankins waited on the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) at Palmerston North urging the appointment of a registrar for the district. Sir Robert Stout said that he would confer with the other district judge (Judge Cooper) upon the subject. During tire hearing of the deputation it was mentioned that the Magistrate (Mr A. D. Thomson) was in Palmerston North only eight days in the month. One of the richest patches of opal ever discovered at the AVhitecliffs field had been made by two young men who benefited to the extent of £2OOO, said a Sydney cable. A. message from Sydney said that the fingerprint method of identification was being introduced in that State.
