ITALIAN SENSATION

3.15 P.M. EDITION

FRIEND OF DUCE ARRESTED

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received October 6, 12.10 p.m.

LONDON, Oct. 5. The Daily Telegraph’s Venice correspondent says the arrest of Commendator Donato Battelli, an intimate friend and schoolmate of Signor Alussolini, has caused a sensation. He was transferred to a prison at Rome, charged with betraying Italian naval secrets to foreign interests. It is alleged that he traded on his well-known friendship with the Dime and represented himself as engaged in promoting the steel industry. The case will be handed to a special tribunal for the defence of the State.
