The positions of the various queens in the queen carnival at present being held to raise funds for the Central Relief Committee were announced for the first time at 10 a.m. to-day. The voting figures will not be disclosed until the final stages of the carnival are reached. Each day the colours of the different queens are to be flown from the flagpole on the band rotunda in the Square. The positions announced this morning were: Plunket and Nursing Services Queen, Miss Joan Barnett (red and green flag) 1. Public Servioes Queen, Miss K. Richards (royal blue and gold flag) 2. Retailers’ Queen, Miss Edna Boon (red and white flag) 3. Farmers’ Queen, Miss Joan Russell (green and gold flag) 4. Sports Queen, Miss Mollie Nathan (green and white flag) 5. RETAILERS’ QUEEN. The many supporters of the Retailers’ Queen (Miss Edna Boon) are well on the job with arrangements for the carnival, one of the first attractions being an oldtime dance in. the Cosmopolitan Hall on Tuesday night. Old time dancing is fast gaining a hold in Palmerston North and its followers will bo afforded a splendid night’s entertainment with dancing to the good music and popular and novelty numbers. The prices, Is for ladies and Is 6d for men, are popular and the committee is prepared for a big crowd and a jolly evening.
