TE ARAKURA

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TE ARAICURA, Oct. 6. A very enjoyable party was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs Lewer on Tuesday evening to celebrate the 21st birthday of Mr D. Phillips. A very pleasant time was spent in games, competitions and dancing. The rooms were artistically decorated with spring flowers and streamers. Items were rendered as follow: Songs, Miss H. Bennett; duet, Misses H. and J. Bennett. A dainty supper was served, the birthday cake with its 21 coloured and capped kewpie3, being a special feature After cutting the cake, Mr Phillips received hearty congratulations from all sides, the guests joining in the singing of musical honours, and later he was presented with a large golden key. Mr L. Cross proposed the health of the guest of the evening, Mr Phillips suitably replying. Mr Phillips extended a very hearty vote of thanks to, and also proposed the health of, Mr and Mrs Lewer. Mr McKenzie proposed the health of Mrs Phillips, who had travelled from New Plymouth to be present at the party. Mrs Phdlips thanked Mr and Mrs Lewer, who were assisted by Misses Ada and Thelma Lewer, for the delightful party they had arranged. The evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Among those present were: Mrs Phillips, Mrs Lewer, Misses L. Allsop, P. McGiver, M. Danks, R. Carmont, V. Royal J. Andrews, Fletcher, A Callishaw, G. Elliott, M. Bennett, M. Firth, A. Lewer, J. Bennett, T. Lewer, E. Bennett, D. Lewer, E. Hansen and H. Bennett; Messrs D. Phillips, L. Cross, G. McKay, J. Griggs, O. Goodjohn, C. Rumble, K. Burns, I. Speights, B. McKenzie, P. McMinn, 13. Lewer, E. Whisker, L. Hansen, H. Whitehead, R. Sulivan, A. Cnrthew, R. Ilartridge, G. Firth, Yens Enevoldsen and A. Quarrie. A delightful pantry tea was given by Mr and Mrs Christensen, at their home, on Wednesday evening, for Miss Elvira Bennett, whose marriage to Mr A. Carthew is to take place this month. The sittingroom was gay with Iceland poppies and camelias. Items which were greatly onjoyed were rendered as follow : Duet, | Misses Christensen and Robert; violin and piano duet, Misses E. and M. Bennett; rej citations, Misses G. Bennett; humorous recitations, Miss Firth. Games and com--1 petitions caused much amusement, Miss 1 Christensen being the winner of the tennis I wedding competition. After a dainty ■ supper had been served, Miss Bennett and IMr Carthew were asked to accept the basket of little gifts for the pantry from those present. Mr L. Hansen wished Miss Bennett and Mr Carthew every success and happiness, and stated that they would be greatly missed from the district, in which they were held in high esteem. Mr Carthew on behalf of Miss Bennett and himself thanked all for their kind gifts and concluded by heartily thanking Mr and Mrs Christensen for the very delightful evening they had so kindly given them. Community singing was also indulged in, and there was never a dull moment. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs J. 11. Bennett, Mr and Mrs Lauridsen, Mr and Mrs Christensen, Misses E. Bennett, M.. Bennett, D. Lewer, M. Firth, H. Bennett, T. Lewer, E. Baxter, J. Bennett, M. Pedersen, E. Hansen, R. Christensen, Robert and R. Pedersen; Messrs A. Carthew, E. Whisker, P. Wevell, N. Pedersen, O. Clausen, J. Baxter, H. Pedersen, L. Hansen, Robert and A. Quarrie.
