WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.
YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. A strong recovery in Bank of New Zealand shares was the main feature of the Wellington stock and sharo market ycsterday. Following four sales late on Thursday at 48s, business was done yesterday, at 48s lid up to 48s 6d. Last week the shares were traded at 45s up to 46e J-sd, business opening last Monday at 465. Late buyers yesterday were quoting 48s Id, sellers holding for 48s 9d. There was little change in other bank shares. Australasias eased to £l2 10s, following payment ot the interim dividend. Now South Wales were 5s better at £34 ss, sellers asking £35, and E.S. and A’s firmed to £5 18s 6d. Government loans were again in strong demand, mostly at firmer rates, but sellers wore still hard to locate. Business was none m oi per cent, stock, 1939-43, at £IOO 7s 6d, and the 1939-52 maturity at £lOl 7s 6d, while the 4 per cents, 1949, sold on change at £lOl 15s. Local body and other debentures wore very lirm on a sustained demand, with practically no response, financial and pastoral shares were firm, and little quotablo change was seen in gas, insuranco and meat shares. Shipping snaies held their strength at Thursday s level. An active demand for breweries tended to firm prices. Carltons were 6d up'at 40s Od, and Now Zealands were better at sis yd. Little change was seen in miscellaneous shares. There was a slack demand for mining shares. YESTERDAY’S QUOTATIONS.

LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE. LONDON, Oct. 5. The stock markets closed generally firm. British funds were strong, with war loan, 31 per cent., at £lOl 12s 6d. . German bonds were also higher.
