BYRD’S SUPPLY SHIP.
BEAR TAKEN TO PORT. NEW YORK, Oct. 5. A mesago from Southport, . North Carolina, states that Rear-Admiral R. E. Byrd’s supply ship Bear was towed into Southport late on Thursday by the tug Blanche, which answered a call for aid off Frying Pan shoals. The coastguard headquarters advised that the Bear had been towed in because the captain desired to make port on account of storm warnings along the coast. Advices state that the condition of the vessel is satisfactory.
