CHANCELLOR’S ASSAILANT.

ALLEGED TO BE NAZI. LONDON, Oct. 6. The Times’s Vienna correspondent states that Dr. Dollfuss is improving. The police possess conclusive proof that Dertil, his assailant, had been a registered member of the Nazis since January. 1932; also a Storm Trooper. A form lie filled in was recently discovered in a raid on Nazi premises. Dertil, confronted with the form, withdrew his denial that he had been a Nazi and explained that he resigned six months ago. * The Chronicle’s Vienna correspondent says that Ithe Vice-Chancellor (Ma.j.or Fey) declares that Dertil was driven to his crime by his Nazi mentality. He added: “I believe we have got the Nazis on the run and will complete their destruction in a few weeks, resulting in Germany realising that she cannot break Austria, after which a friendly statement will be possible.” A sensation was caused at a Munich Nazi meeting when Herr Reuter, affirming that Dertil’s stepfather corresponded with General Fey and Herr Steidle said it was obvious that the impulse for Dertil’s crime came from their entourage.
