BUSINESS GIRLS’ CLUB.
VISIT TO FLOCK HOUSE. On Friday evening a large party, consisting of members of the Business Girls’ Club, journeyed to Flock House, Bulls. In accordance with their custom, a concert and dance was held, and it was a large crowd that assembled in the hall at the Flock House station. Branches of pink flowering cherry had been used to decorate the hall, and this, combined with overhead streamers, lent a festive air to the merry gathering The stage was beautifully decorated, the word “Welcome,” wrought in twisted coloured paper, standing out conspicuously on. a white screen. The first part of the evening was devoted to a concert programme, Mr J. Selwyn acting as stage manager and later as M.C. for the dancing. Miss M. Penketh, accompanied by Miss M. Puklowski, sang two popular numbers, Miss D. Stairs also giving much pleasure with her singing. A playette, “Between the Soup and the Savoury” (Gertrude Jennings) was splendidly acted by Misses D. Stairs (cook) R. Carmont (maid) and A. Varcoe (kitchen maid); their efforts were rewarded with rounds of applause. Mr J. Selwyn conducted a jolly community sing with Miss M. Puklowski at the piano; and Messrs Hutchinson and Jeromsen, popular as ever, mystified their audience with their thoughtreading act. Colonel C. G. Powles, principal of Flock House, thanked the Business Girls’ Club on behalf of the boys and himself, and said that the visit had been most eagerly anticipated. Supper was served, and dancing was enjoyed to the music of an electric gramaphone, extras being played by Missess M. Grace and M. Puklowski.
