Y.M.C.A. GYMNASTIC CARNIVAL.
Starting from a small beginning the Y.M.C.A. gymnastic carnivals have become one of the mo6t popular forms of entertainment in Palmerston North, and the 11th annual carnival, to be presented in tho Opera House, next Friday, Saturday and Monday, the 13th, 14th and 16th of October, promises to eclipse any of its predecessors. For weeks past 340 members selected from classes representing senior ladies and men, secondary school girls and boys, primary boys and junior girls and boys down to the ages of eight years, have been putting their wholehearted energy into rehearsals. With this material, which will equal any in tho world, and under the capable supervision of Mr C. Woods, the physical director, there is not the slightest doubt that for novelty, precision in execution and colourful presentation this year’s carnival will be one of tho highest order, and the public are assured of witnessing a programme of highly spectacular and enjoyable numbers. Many new and novel items have been introduced, while some of the old favourites have been included with great improvement. Promptly at 7.4? p.m. tho curtain will rise on the grand march of 340 performers, and each item will follow in quick succession until the grand finale. Patrons aro requested to note that the performance commences sharp at 7.45 p.m. Sweets will be sold at tho door by the Y.M.C.A. Ladies’ Auxiliary. ’Tickets are obtainable from any Y.M.C.A. member or at the association’s office, Grey Street. The box plan opens on Wednesday at tho Central Booking Office.
