(From Our Own Correspondent.) OPIKI, dime 23. The Opiki Women’s lnsiitutc’s fifth birthday party was again attended with success. The hall presented a gay spectacle with its decorations. The celebration opened with the singing by all of “Land of Hope and Glory,” with Mrs Alvc as soloist. Mrs B. A. Norman, die president, extended a welcome lo all present. Jhe beautiful birthday cake with its five candles was cut. First the candles were lighted and blown out by Miss Noelmc Phillips, while Mrs Gregory, tho most senior mem ber, cut the first slice. Mrs McNab, on behalf of the Tokomaru Women’s Institute. presented the president with a floral horseshoe, and Airs Easton, of Shannon, likewise a posy in shades of pink. I lie winners of the novelty dances were: Unit roll’s lucky spot, P. Kelly and Edna Croad; Gay Gordons, Mr ,f. A. Gookslcy and Miss Betty Jackson; Monte Carlo, Mr Ivan Croad and Mr B. Croad; parcel waltz, Miss Joan Sannc and partner. Ihe euchre was won by Mrs Harrison and Mr J. Hansen, and Mr J. Ellery and Mrs S. Okc (Longburn). Mr J. Mabey was M.G. Considering the short notice and inclemency of the weather, there was a gratifying attendance. Miss M. AVilson is at present with Mr and Mrs Stewart on a motor trip to Tanpo and Rotorua. Mr and Mrs J. Aitchoson paid a shovt visit to Wellington recently. Mrs C. Marriott is the guest ot her sister, Mrs Clark, of Petono. Miss V Henderson has returned from a visit to Wellington. Mr and Mr* Coin-, who have been the guests of Mrs Irwin, have returned to their home. Mr J. Young has been the guest of his parents, Mr and Mrs S. Young. Mr and Mrs J. AVisnoski are visiting the Wairarapa. Mrs C. 11. .Clanfield of ICumeroa, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs N. Mabey. Miss Eva Scdoole is the guest of her sister, Mrs Webb. Miss H. McKenzie has returned to Wellington after a visit to Mrs G. 1 aync. Mis Redmond, of Mangatainoka, is staying ill Opiki. Miss L. Cooksley is at present nursing a private ease at Paraparaumu. In a ping pong match, Opiki v. Makerua, tho latter were victorious by one game.
