A RECIPE.

BROWN DATE PUDDING. One cup self-raising flour, half cup hot water, one dozen dates (stoned), two tablespoons butter, one teaspoon bicarbonate of soda, one tablespoon brown sugar, pinch salt. Sift flour with salt, and rub in the but* r. Add sugar and stoned dates. Dissolve the soda in the hot water and add last. Pour into a greased mould and steam II hours. Serve with cream, custard sauce, or date sauce.
