THE STOCK MARKET.
FEILDING SALE. Dalgcty and Co., Ltd., report on their Fcilcling sale held on Friday: Heavier yards of sheep and cattle came forward. A fair yarding of fat sheep, principally fat ewes, met with strong comi>ctitioii and prices showed a sharp rise, particularly for fat ewes, which is in sympathy with outside markets. Three full races of breeding ewes of mixed quality sold under steady competition with no quotable change. A fairly full yarding of hoggets also met with sound competition and we report a good .sale in this section at prices showing practically no change. Beef cattlo were forward in average numbers, including somo useful run-bred sorts, with steady competition, the market being fully firm on late rates. In the store cattle section the entry was heavier than has been tho case for some weeks, but not a great deal of interest was taken by the general public in this section. A medium yarding of dairy cattle mot with 6ound competition for tho better sorts. Mr W. A. Coombs’s special entry of empty Hereford cows made £4 16s; theso were in fair store condition, and his ewe hoggets made 31s. The N.Z. Farmers’ Co-op. Dist. Co., Ltd. report:—ln tho sheep section we submitted several lines of good quality breeding ewes. Owing no doubt to the cold, bitter conditions, buyers who were present in force were inclined to hold back, and although a total clearance was made prices were hardly up to expectations. Fat sheep again experienced a very keen demand, and values improved by Is to 2s per head, in the store lamb section there was good competition for strong healthy lots. Low conditioned lots we.ro easier. Dairy cattlo wore yarded in increased numbers. Cows and heifers close to profit sold at par _ with lato sales, but late calvors wero not m demand. A heavy yarding of beef ex daily and potter cows met with a strong sale with values firm on the previous week. Quotations :—Store sheep: 5 and 6-jcar owes r.w.
