FEILDING'S FAST BACKS. DEFEAT OE OLD BOYS. Playing an open game and making more of their back movements, Feilding beat Old Boys by 11 points to 0. For a long period the scores were equal, G-all, but the visitors scored in the last few minutes and put the issue beyond doubt with a sustained attack. The teams were: Old Boys.—Betteridge, Bradley, Jnnes, Buick, Olliver, Plank, Irviue, Lovelock, Louisson, Todd, O’Dea, Fleming, J. Powell, Thomas, S. Cutler. Feilding. Stuckey. * Sutherland, Bowyer, McKenzie, Nicol, Waldin, Dewe, Henson, Rosser, Kitchen, Nicholson, Sullivan, Newman, Hight, Spclman. Feilding opened the attack and play see-sawed for a time. Kitchen and Henson broke through dangerously and only a mark by Betteridge saved a try well in. A series of kicks saw Old Boys gradually work to the Feilding twenty-five, where an infringement allowed Betteridge to put on the first three points from well out. It was a fine kick. Soon afterwards AA aldin secured from Dewe and went almost

straight through to score in a good position. Bowyer’s kick failed. The visitors kept up the pressure and Betteridge had to find the line. A moment later the Old Boys hacks went away and Olliver kicked, the opposition full-back fielding the ball. O Dea then went near to scoring, a hot attack on the Feilding line following. Nicol broke away supported by McKenzie, but lie iailed to see Betteridge when swerving infield and was hroiight down. The Feilding forwards staged a loose attack, first one ami then another handling the ball. Eventually Nicholson secured and ran round the grouped players to hurl himself across the line. Stuckey’s kick failed. Half-time came shortly after.

Old Boys opened up the second half with a strong attack and in holding Louisson off the ground at the line Bowyer was hurt and bad to leave Lie field, I. Sutherland replacing him. From file scrum following the Old Boys backs staged a sharp dash that resulted in Plank crossing to even Hie score. Cutler’s kick failed. Fortunes fluctuated for a time, several movements breaking down through bad passing or good tackling by both sides. An offside infringement gave McKenzie an opportunity to goal, but the ball fell short. Feilding missed a splendid chance when the ball went right out to McKenzie, but lie put one foot over the side-line. In the last few minutes of the game Betteridge tried io give his side the lead with a free kick from near the half-way line, but the distance was too great. Sutherland centred after a dash up the line and, following some scrambling play. Newman secured and hurled himself through the ruck to ground the hall behind the line. McKenzie made light work of the conversion. In the closing stages Feilding kept up the pressure and their forwards were seen in action again, hut the ball went out. The final score was:

Feilding 11, Old Boys 0. Mr A. Weston was the referee
